40 years ago on this date, my dad let me take his camera to the Saxon & Accept show at the Fox Theater in downtown San Diego. So a group of us from Poway went down early to see if we could meet them. We did!
Saxon was on their Crusader tour and Accept was on their Balls To The Wall tour. Both bands were legendary in our young minds back then and it was an incredible thrill to meet them.
My memories of the show/day:
- The bands were all very nice. We were a little starstruck. They were very accommodating and welcoming to us.
- When Accept came out of their bus, Saxon was doing a soundcheck. I could hear them playing the riff to AC/DC’s “Shot Down In Flames” during the soundcheck.
- Accept was pretty good live. Saxon was on the “Crusader” tour, which was a step down from the “Power And The Glory” tour in my young mind. Still a good show, but nothing compared to when they were around last time opening for Iron Maiden.
- The guy at the t-shirt stand was completely wasted and totally rude to anyone who dared ask any questions about the shirts. And there were a lot of us.
