I was actually supposed to see the Oxys last time the Hangmen came around, but they got into a horrible car accident and didn’t make the show. Luckily they were all ok and luckily the Hangmen took them out on tour again!
And what a complete blast they were! Talk about “blasting fast and loud”! They came in, they were all over the place, and they rocked Brick By Brick with a hard hitting energetic gust of catchy punk rock ‘n roll that when it was over, left me and some of my friends completely stunned.
The Oxys are from Austin, Texas and their main guitarist, Ginchy was also in a version of the Dead Boys and also played with Sylvain Sylvain! Talk about some credentials! And those experiences rub off in their music, which is ’70s punk inspired and raw, energetic and catchy. They got 3 albums out, with the latest, “Casting Pearls Before Swine” is right up there with the 30 other contenders for “Top 10 album of the year” that I have on my list. Damn, this is just a fantastic year for music.
Another great thing about this band was that they each had a different look and each were vying for everyone’s attention and were a complete joy to photograph. I should’ve brought my real camera for this one. Here’s a bunch of pictures I got with my cel phone:
