Show Review: The Night Times at the Ken Club Oct 19, 2024 Part 1

“Join us for a haunted night of garage/punk mayhem at our very first GHOUL FRENZY! Costumes are strongly encouraged! Killer tunes are guaranteed!” said the Night Times on their Instagram. And almost everyone wore a costume and some absolutely KILLER TUNES were played!

The first and only time I saw the Night Times previously was at Tiki Oasis opening for the Fleshtones, five years ago. The lead singer/guitarist broke some guitar strings and the guitarist for the Fleshtones offered him his guitar, but he refused it, deciding to just be a frontman for the rest of the set. After all, they had another guitarist. They were a 5 piece back then, if I remember. I wonder if that was the catalyst for him to just be a lead singer for the band, because at this show, they had 7 members! He only sang and even had a backup singer beside him.

And like the Wyld Gooms who played before them, they played fast paced fuzzed out garage music, with excellent songs, and were all over the place. The keyboards were solid, the drummer pounding, the guitars nice and fuzzy. And yes, even took a few spills onstage too. All in the name of rock ‘n roll! Unlike the Wyld Gooms, they actually have an album out. An excellent one called “Here We Go” on Outro Records (who also recently released a Halloween themed album by members of the Night Times and Wyld Gooms called “Halloween Riots” which I have on order). Also a few 7″s.

This was a Halloween costume party, so they basically just put on some masks as their costumes. Like the Wyld Gooms “review”, I took so many pictures that came out pretty good, I’m going to post this in two parts.
