Show Review: Covid Cola at Girl Can’t Help It anniversary party June 1, 2024

Epic anniversary celebration outside of The Girl Can’t Help It vintage clothing store in North Park area of San Diego on June 1st, 2024. I’m guessing it’s their 12th anniversary because they state that they’re heading into their 13th year. But they always have some great shows outside to celebrate and this was no exception.

First of all Swami John Reis was DJing. He brought homemade cupcakes for everyone too!

Secondly, a very rare appearance by Covid Cola. Covid Cola was formed in during the lockdown by Robert Lopez (a.k.a. El Vez) of the Zeros with friends Pat & Lety from the Schizophonics. Declan from a local band called Drug Hunt plays drums. They were formed as a side project to solely keep up their songwriting chops during the lockdown. They wrote a bunch of songs that will never see an album, although a couple of them did make their way onto a Schizophonics album. And of the dozen or so songs played at this show, only 2 of them were previously played live before. And what a bunch of songs! Wow! Great catchy punk rock! Here’s a couple clips of what they sounded like (I wish my phone recorded better sound (it takes great pictures though!):

And I should’ve recorded the whole set, as like I said, most of these songs will never be released. Just a fun project to them, but the rest of the world needs to hear them!

One of the songs, “Join My Cult”, Robert did his Charles Manson dance, which was pretty funny.

Thirdly, The Zeros 77 also played! Review of them coming up soon.
