Show Review: Cosmic Psychos at the Casbah May 29, 2024

So the Australian legends The Cosmic Psychos came to play the Casbah on May 29, 2024. For those of you who don’t know, they were a proto-grunge band who formed in 1982. You may have heard them covered by L7 when they recorded “Lost Cause”. They’ve gone through some changes throughout those 42 years, but the current lineup has been around for at least 18 years, which is Ross Knight on bass, Dean Muller (formerly from Hoss) on drums, and guitarist John McKeering from the Onyas who was brought in to replace the departed Robbie Watts.

Despite the Cosmic Psychos touring the US various times throughout their career, this was my first time seeing them! They were loud, heavy, and fun, which is all I want in a band. They drank a few, if you want to call imbibing in Pabst “drinking”. Ross even apologized to me and my friend if he accidentally spit on us while singing. Being a band from thousands of miles away, opening band Zeke was kind enough to let them use their drums and amps. All in all, it was a great night with a lot of San Diego bands in the audience including Javier from the Zeros, Pat & Lety from the Schizophonics, among others. On the way back to the car, a violent but jovial old punk rocker told my wife he liked her style.

Here’s some pictures and video. All pictures by me. Video recorded by Luis Torres.
