Takin' A Ride

This is one of the best ones! Van Halen had a dress rehearsal for Steve Wozniak and selected friends a week before the US Festival. They were getting paid $1 million dollars for the show, which was a record for the time, and I guess invited Steve (who organized the US Festival) to show him and his team what they were going to deliver.

David Lee Roth is in fine form here. Telling jokes before, after, and even sometimes during the songs! Explaining to the small audience how the show is going to go. The band is having a blast. It is a rehearsal, so there’s a very loose vibe and even some mistakes!

I actually remixed this a couple times, but am finally happy with the way this one came out. I still think I can do a little better, but I spent enough time on this, so enough is enough. The guitar is mostly in the left speaker on this tape, so that’s how I have it on this one. Of course with how some of the mixing on the tape while recording was being played, things change around here and there. I did my best to make everything consistent. Some of the songs sound like a real album!
