I’m always looking for new bands. And finding at least one a day that I really like. And thanks to blogs, youTube, Amazon Music, and places like bandcamp, it’s really easy to go down deep and get lost in all the new bands that are so great. More often than not, I’m just searching, reading and discovering for hours. You find someone who likes a band they like, you see what other bands they like, and then it just snowballs from there. And thanks to blogs like Faster And Louder, I’m always discovering all sorts of new bands. Including a lot of foreign bands that don’t even speak English, but are just amazing. By the way, the language barrier doesn’t mean anything to me. I hardly pay any attention to lyrics anyway. However, if they’re good or if I agree with them, it’s just an added bonus. I’ve discovered so many of these bands lately that don’t even sing in English, that I’m thinking of doing a big blog post to point them all out. There’s a ton of amazing bands out there that many people wouldn’t have heard of otherwise.
Well Lùlù is one of those bands. They’re a supergroup of sort in France, consisting of members from several French bands. I guess their lyrics are in French and Italian. I don’t know what the hell they’re singing about, but damn, there’s some amazing stuff in here that’s just as good as anything in the US. Lùlù play pure powerpop with a rough edge, ala Psychotic Youth. Feel good, punchy songs with some really interesting/different female background vocals. We’re talking loud guitars, catchy choruses, and commercially accessible songs that could be “hits” if the public was a little more discerning. I believe this was basically recorded live at their place in Lyon, France, which just goes to show how talented they are. It’s a good one, and one that will definitely be on a number of Top 10 lists of the year. Recommended! Check out the samples below.
